This is characterized by an elevated leukocyte count that closely resembles leukemia. Such leukocytic reactions have been found occasionally in various infections, chemical and drug poisonings, severe burns, severe hemorrhages or sudden hemolysis of blood and in metastases to bone. The clinical history, subsequent course, or bone marrow biopsy may be necessary for differential diagnosis.
